THEATERS and BATHS
Baths of Neptune

Do some exercise in the gym and meet your friend in the Frigidarium (cold water-pool area). Relax in the worm pleasent climate of the Tepidarium (worm water-pools) and walk through the underground galleries of the Baths of Neptune to understand how the ancient heating system was working.


The Theater
What’s you favourite play, tragedy or comedy? Help Electra and Orestes to get revenge for their father’s killing. Follow Jupiter disguised as Amphitryon to Alcemena’s bedroom to inflame her night. Try to stop Medea while she is killing Jason’s children to avenge herself. Help Phormio to make love always conquer all. Ostia’s Theater, with its 3000 seats, is a great location for dreaming of a past life.


The Corporations Square
Meet the representatives of the ancient guilds of Ostia Antica in their office in the Corporations Square. In an harbour the power is in trader’s hands and these are the people you have to pay off if you want your business to be successful!


The Baths of the Forum
Are you tired? It’s time again for a relaxing bath in the Calidarium (hot water-pools) of the Baths of the Forum. See tens of slaves moving along the underground dark galleries underneath the baths to fuel the fire-chambers and make your water hot. See the hot air moving up through the pottery pipes and put your back on the wall to feel the heat filling your body. At the very end, get the best preserved latrine of the city to “do your business” using one the old marble WC built in the area.
 

FORUM & HOUSES
The House of Diana district and the Thermopolium

In a city hosting about 50.000 people, the apartments buildings had to be very high, at least 4 or 5 storeys. A chaotic mix of social classes lived in this multi-cultural buildings: rich Syrian traders, poor German slaves, smart Greek profeteers. Mind your belongings and go the House of Diana to meet a friend and then move together for lunch to the Thermopolium, an incredibly well-preserved ancient restaurant, where they will cook for you Roman specialties: salted boiled eggs, a sauce made of fish giblets (garum) and a glass of spicy and firm wine. 


The Ancient Forum of Ostia
The beating hearth of the political and social life of Ostia. Climb the steps of the Temple of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva to offer blood to the gods. Follow a juridical trial in the Basilica or meet the Senators in the Curia. Look at the most multi-ethnic crowd walking fast or slow on the flagstones of the square and feel like being an ancient Roman man or woman for a day.
 

ROADS, STORES and TOMBS
The Main Road and its stores

Pass through the Roman Gate (Porta Romana) to enter Ostia and walk along its main road, the Decumanus Maximus. Find some shade in the covered passageways flaking the road and buy some luxury good in one of the several stores built on both the sides of the Decumanus. Drink fresh water from a fountain (nympheum) and follow the crowd walking toward the city center.


The ancient Necropolis
A labyrinth of narrow passageways dividing ancient funerary buildings. Niches on the walls to host the ancient urns. Crematories to burn the bodies and stairs to get the upper level. Pay Charont and cross the Styx to get the Hades. Welcome to the Realm of the Dead, right outiside the walls of Ostia Antica.
